Annual Report2018 Annual Report

In 2018, our department redoubled its focus on its mission of building up Groton as a healthy, happy, more connected community - and there's much good news to share!

We hope you'll enjoy this look at our 2018 Annual Report, highlighting some key ways our department contributed to the community over the past year. Our work grows and thrives through your participation, and we invite you to get involved in 2019.

Groton Parks and Recreation has created a Giving Tree that has "leaves" listing equipment needed for the Groton Community Center.   The Department is hoping community-minded people and businesses will take a leaf, and donate the item to us.  The Department has made it simple for others to do it online where they can see the needed equipment and make a donation to purchase it immediately.

Discover Program Guide

Why 'Dekouvri' on the cover?  By adding the word 'Discover' in different languages, this time in Haitian Creole, to the cover of each edition of our program guide, we hope to reinforce the message that we welcome all members of our community in our programs and services. Over time, we hope this results in more diverse participation and better service to the entire community.

The department encourages "active lifestyles" through walking programs, youth programs, adult and 55+ fitness classes, hiking trails, health screenings and serving affordable healthy meals. We bring money into the community through programs and special events. Last year, 28% of our recreation program revenue - $140,000 in all - came from non-residents. We practice conservation of natural resources through tree care, trail maintenance and the management of open spaces and coastal resources. The department is committed to social equity through a generous scholarship program, providing activities for individuals with special needs, creating opportunities for inclusion and providing ADA-accessible recreational facilities.
