Nestled between the Thames and Mystic River, Groton is a destination location. When you're not at the field or out on the course stroll among the many great restaurants and shops in downtown Mystic, Connecticut's number one tourist destination.

Fields

sand volleyball courtsAthletic facilities are available for rent. Available facilities include Poquonnock Plains Park, a three-field complex with a half-mile walking track, full-service concession stand and a playground. The Esker Point Beach volleyball complex hosts 9 courts. Calvin Burrows baseball field is a lighted field with a concession stand and batting cage. The Hockey Rink is the only deck hockey rink in the area. Facilities are available for tournaments from April 1 to October 31 annually.  Requests for tournaments should be submitted to the Department a minimum of 120 days in advance of the event. 

 

Golf

Shennecossett Golf Course hosts over a dozen tournaments annually. There are fantastic views of the Thames River and the Long Island Sound looking from the 16th and 17th holes, and at any time, one might see the U.S.C.G.C. Eagle or a nuclear submarine navigating the waterways. Shennecossett is the only public Donald Ross designed course in Connecticut. For tournament information contact:
