This is the second phase of work on the Mystic Bascule Bridge. The first phase consisted of replacement of the steel grid deck and supports and the rehabilitation of the counterweights and was completed in 2001. In the second phase project there will be a full painting of the structural steel, a realignment of the overhead counterweight truss, a replacement of all mechanical and electrical components and replacement of the Control House.

It is anticipated that this work will take place over three construction seasons. All work involving disruption of vehicular traffic would be in stages in the off-season from January to April. Disruption to marine traffic would be in off-season from December to April in the first two seasons and from November to April in the third season. It will also be necessary to close the bridge for two 54-hour weekends and a detour will be in place for this closure.

Work is anticipated to begin this Winter 2010 and be completed in the Spring of 2013. The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public to hear details of the schedule and the planned work. ConnDOT construction and design personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting to discuss this project with ConnDOT personnel.
