Patrol Division : Dive Team
Groton is
located on the shoreline and is surrounded by water on three sides. In addition, there are numerous ponds and quarries
located within its boundaries. The Groton Town Police Dive Team is responsible for rescue and recovery operations of missing
swimmers or drowning victims. In addition, they are called upon to locate and recover evidence that may be located in bodies of
water throughout town.
Before applying for the team, officers must possess a minimum of basic SCUBA certification from an accredited organization
(NAUI, PADI, YMCA). Members must then pass a practical swim and underwater navigation test before being appointed to the team.
The team trains on a regular basis throughout the year in all weather conditions, practicing search techniques and underwater
recoveries. Several members have completed more advanced training including training conducted by the US Navy.
