  1. Both bride and groom must appear at the office to apply for and to sign the license, but not necessarily together.
  2. The license is valid for 65 days from the date of application.
  3. The fee for the license is $30. Certified copies of the marriage certificate are $20.00 each.
  4. If the applicant is under 18 years of age, written consent of a parent or guardian is required on the license.
  5. If the applicant is under 16 years of age, the Judge of Probate must endorse with written consent on the license.
  6. To obtain a certified copy by mail, write to the Town Clerk, indicate the names of the bride and groom and the marriage date, enclose payment of $20 for each copy, and enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Genealogy

The Town of Groton has vital records and land records dating back - in some cases - to the 1600's.

We do not have the staff to do genealogical research, but we will attempt to locate information when we have the time to do so.

Our cemetery records often provide useful information.

You are welcome to visit the office to look at these records. We ask that you not come in the week prior to and after the November election.

Birth records remain confidential unless you are a member of a legally incorporated genealogical society authorized by the State of Connecticut. Birth records that are more than 100 years old are open to the public.
