The last day to REGISTER TO VOTE by mail, at DMV, or online; applications must be received or postmarked by the Registrar by August 9, 2018. The last day to REGISTER TO VOTE in person is before NOON on August 13, 2018. The Registrars of Voters office is located at 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton CT 06340. Any applications post marked by August 9, 2018 but received after  12:00pm on August 13th will not be eligible to vote in the primary. Please call the Registrars of Voters for more registration information and hours of operation at 860-441-6650.

PARTY AFFILIATION CHANGES: You can make changes to your party affiliation any time up to 90 days before a primary (BEFORE May 14, 2018 in order to be eligible to vote in this Augusts’ primary), if you were affiliated with another major party. If you choose to make a change from one major party to another major party after that date, you will not be eligible to vote in the primary but will be registered in that party for the regular election in November. You may apply in person to your town clerk or registrar until 12:00 noon on the last business day before a primary. Please feel free to call the office, if you have any questions.

District 7 – Fitch High School 101 Groton Long Point Road Groton
EDR – 2 Fort Hill Road Groton – Election Day Reservation is available for all regular elections. It is not open for the primary in August. If you have just moved into town or realized on election day you are not registered, you can go to the EDR Location on November 6th and register to vote and vote in the same location. Please try to register to vote before that day so there is no wait for you on election day. See link to register above.

Voter - Election Day Registration (EDR) Law:

Any person who qualifies as eligible to register to vote may register in a General Election and cast a ballot on Election Day at the EDR Location which is Human Services Building, 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton from 6 am – 8 pm. The EDR Law does not apply to Special Elections or Primaries. Please contact the Registrar’s, if you have additional questions (860) 441-6650.

Eligibility to Vote:

  1. 18 years of age as of Election Day
  2. U.S. Citizen
  3. Resident of Groton, CT
  4. Have not been convicted of a disenfranchising felony, or if so, your voting rights have been restored

The Registrars’ Office works using State Mandates under the Secretary of the State to:

  1. Maintain the Accuracy of the Voter Registration List and Files
  2. Organize and Supervise Elections
  3. Hire and Train Personnel for Election Day
  4. Ensure Voters’ Rights
  5. Supply Voting Materials
  6. Maintain and Care for Voting Machines/Equipment
  7. Conduct the Canvass of Electors
The Registrars conduct special registration sessions at Robert E. Fitch High School, Marine Science Magnet School 
and Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School in the spring. Supervised absentee balloting
is held at local nursing/convalescent homes as well.
