The Town of Groton’s Economic Development excess town property program addresses surplus town and state property located in Groton in a methodical manner. Economic development staff manages the redevelopment effort after Groton decides the property will not be used for other public purposes. The goal of the redevelopment process is to leverage the highest and best use for the excessed public properties. These real estate assets can have significant positive impacts on key reinvestment areas within Groton. The excess public town and state properties are marketed as redevelopment projects rather than through a simple real estate transaction. The process is time intensive, but results in the creation of improved long term uses and revenue streams.
The following properties are currently in the excess town property program:
- Mystic Education Center
- Seely School
- Colonel Ledyard School
- Pleasant Valley School
- Groton Heights School
Updates on the status of each project can be found on the Economic Development website.
