PARTY AFFILIATION CHANGES: You may make changes to your party affiliation any time up to 90 days before any primary and for the Presidential Preference Primary and Legislative Primary, the date was May 11, 2020, if you were affiliated with another major party. If you choose to make a change from one major party to another major party after that date, you will not be eligible to vote in the primary but will be registered in that party for the regular election.

Voter - Election Day Registration (EDR) Law -
Any person who qualifies as eligible to register to vote may register in a General Election and cast a ballot on Election Day at the EDR location which is Human Services Building, 2 Fort Hill Road, Groton from 6 am – 8 pm (must be registered in the system at 8pm so come early just to be safe). The EDR Law does not apply to Special Elections or Primaries. Please contact the Registrar’s, if you have additional questions (860) 441-6650.

Absentee Ballots are available beginning July 21, 2020. In addition to §9-135 of the Connecticut General Statutes, Governor Lamont has issued Executive Order 7QQ, which shall permit a person to lawfully state he or she is unable to appear at a polling place because of COVID-19, if there is no federally approved and widely available vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19.

The following are the standard exceptions:

  • Your active service in the Armed Forces of the United States
  • Your absence from the town during all of the hours of voting
  • Your illness
  • Your religious tenets forbid secular activity on the day of the election or referendum
  • Your duties as an election or referendum official at a polling place other than your own during all the hours of voting
  • Your physical disability

Applications will be sent to all eligible voters by the Secretary of the State for the Presidential Primary and the General November 3, 2020 Election.  Please return the application to the Town Clerk’s office, 45 Fort Hill Road.  There will be a designate mail box located at the Town Hall for all election related material, including absentee ballot applications and completed absentee ballots.
