Welcome to the Town of Groton, Connecticut

DECEMBER 30 DISTRIBUTION OF COVID-19 TEST KITS HAS BEEN CANCELLED - will be rescheduled

Update 3:

TODAY'S COVID-19 TEST KIT DISTRIBUTION HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The distribution of the COVID-19 self-test kits for the Town of Groton have been cancelled for today due to the State of CT not receiving the kits when expected. We will keep you posted as we wait for the arrival of the kits.

Update 2:

From Police Chief Louis Fusaro

The Town and Emergency Management personnel are monitoring delays with the distribution of test kits on the State of Connecticut.

While we remain hopeful that we will be able to issue them from Fitch High school tomorrow as planned, it is likely that the date and time may be moved later.

As you can appreciate, there are circumstances beyond our control, but emergency management and public safety officials remain ready to push these kits out to the public when they are received.

Update 1:

COVID-19 TEST KITS DELAYED TO THE STATE

Further below is a press release that was just received from the Governor's Office. The State has indicated there is a very small chance of received them overnight, meaning a delay in distribution locally will likely be needed. The plane with the test kits would have to arrive at Bradley Airport by 5 a.m. tomorrow morning in order for Towns to receive them later that morning. Updated information on the COVID-19 Test Kit Distribution will be released as firm facts are received from the State.

Governor Lamont Statement With Update on Shipment of COVID-19 At-Home Rapid Tests
Posted on December 29, 2021

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today released the following statement with an update on Connecticut’s anticipated shipment of COVID-19 at-home rapid tests:

“Due to shipping and warehouse delays outside of the State of Connecticut’s control, our state’s anticipated shipment of COVID-19 at-home rapid tests are currently delayed from arriving in Connecticut. My staff and multiple state agencies have spent the past several days working around the clock to accelerate the movement of our tests through what is clearly a shipping and distribution bottleneck on the West Coast amid unprecedented international demand for tests. I want to thank our municipal and emergency management partners who have quickly and efficiently established their methods of distribution of the tests, clearly communicating them to their communities. My administration is in regular communication with city and town leaders, and we will provide updates as we have them in order to distribute the tests as quickly as possible. I thank our staff and leadership at the Department of Administrative Services, the Department of Public Health, the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and the Connecticut National Guard for their incredible work to execute on this test delivery.”

LIMITED NUMBER OF TEST COVID-19 TEST KITS AVAILABLE ON 12/30/21 from 2pm to 6pm at Fitch High School

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR TOWN OF GROTON RESIDENTS

A limited number of Kits will be distributed at a drive thru event from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday December 30th at the Fitch
High School Parking lot, 101 Groton Long Point Road.

Earlier this week, the State of Connecticut announced that it had procured an amount of “at home” COVID-19 test kits for
residents to be distributed by municipalities. The Town of Groton will be receiving an allotment of these at-home tests,
and plans to distribute them to Town of Groton residents on this Thursday, December 30th (IMPORTANT NOTE: This
distribution includes residents of Groton Long Point, however, City of Groton residents have received a separate
allotment and City officials will be coordinating a separate distribution for City of Groton residents).

Tests will be distributed through a drive through pick-up line at Fitch High School (101 Groton Long Point Road) starting
around 2:00 p.m., and will continue until supplies run out. Please note that no cars will be allowed to line-up at the
distribution site prior to 1:30 p.m. Distribution will be on a first come, first served basis.

Due to the limited number, there is a limit of 2 test kit per houshold and each kit contains 2 tests anddetailed instructions
on how to properly administer the test. Town residents will have to show proof of residency in the Town of Groton, which
may be in the form of a driver’s license, tax bill, car registration or items of mail for service members demonstrating an
address within the Town of Groton. Residents of other surrounding communities, have received separate allotments to be
distributed at other locations. If you reside in a surrounding community please contact your Town Hall or Police Dept. for
distribution points in your town.

To ensure the health and safety of Town staff, we kindly request that all attendees ensure they wear masks when receiving
their kit and exercise patience during this process. Please be patient with Town staff and public safety while we work to
keep the lines moving safely and as quickly as possible.

On a related note, Town Officials are noting an increase in infections commensurate with the overall positivity increase
statewide. We have also seen a dramatic increase with infections of staff, so we encourage all residents – regardless of
vaccination status - to practice the protective measures that they have become familiar with since the start of the
pandemic. This will help stop the surge of COVID in our community. We also understand that access to testing is limited
right now so we encourage anyone who is exhibiting signs of COVID or had a close contact to a family member with
COVID to please take advantage of this free at-home test. Let’s do what we can now to stop the recent surge of COVID
in our community. It is also important to remind Town residents that, as a pre-cautionary measure, the Town has
reinstituted its mask mandate for all Town facilities, regardless of a person’s vaccination status. We are also actively
monitoring cases and may seek additional policy changes if deemed necessary to protect the public.

We hope that this effort helps to minimize the increase of infections and allow those who may experience symptoms get
the testing they need. Please stay safe, remain healthy, and on behalf of all of us, have a Happy New Year!

UPDATE: For residents who are homebound that cannot attend the drive-up distribution event, they can contact the Town of Groton Police Department at 860-441-9712. Please provide the officer or dispatcher with your name, address and best contact number and efforts will be made to get you a test kit. Please know that because of limited supplies, we cannot offer assurances that we will be able to accommodate all requests.
